I'm not sure if different versions of the game have different backgrounds, but the version I played did not use this one in the first screen/level.
The lighting is the main problem with this render. Everything has basically the same color. You need to create more contrast. In Rayman everything is very saturated, but here you can barely tell that the plant on the right has fruits on it.
Other than that I think the arm statue is lacking some shape, and the tings look a little odd.

On the background - I used the background from the 2nd act of the level mostly due to the regular one not quite fitting in with the rest of the scene.

On lighting and colour - That does bug me a little as well, up until the final render, I'd been working with the Eevee engine before swapping to Cycles for the actual render. I didn't realise how dark the render was going to be until it was already several hours into the render, at that point I had wasted enough time with other mistakes that I just went with it. I do plan to come back to this in the future and brighten the scene and materiels up.

On the Tings - I was going for a glowing crystal ball type look, based on how they are shown in the cutscenes of Rayman GBC. Unfortunately, it would seem I left the normal map a bit too strong making them a bit more warped than I would have liked.
